Software Update¶
MDM allows the creation of Software Update Policies in order to set up the remote update of the devices’ Famoco OS and Famoco Layer.
This feature requires Famoco Layer version 2.33 or above.
Preliminary information
While we strongly recommend you to update the OS and Famoco Layer of your devices, in order to receive important security updates and access new features, updating these may impact the operation or performance of your applications if some incompatibility arises. The MDM does not provide any downgrade mechanisms to fall back. We strongly advise you to update a few devices first with a considered OS/FL version and to carefully test your apps before updating a full fleet of devices. Most of our users do so by having a "Test Upgrades" fleet of devices.
Creating a Software Update Policy¶
By pressing the "+ New" button, a form will allow you to create a new Software Update Policy.
Two tabs allow you to target two different aspects of the Software on the device:
- The Famoco OS tab allows you to select an upgrade policy for all models of devices in your organization or a separate one per device model, whether the upgrade happens silently or by notifying users, a download policy, and a schedule (to avoid upgrades during operation hours).
- The Famoco Layer tab allows you to target the specific version of the Famoco Layer installed on your devices (
an OS upgrade might package a higher version of the Famoco Layer!)
Assigning a Software Update Policy to a Profile¶
In order to apply a Software Update Policy to a list of devices, it is necessary to create a link between a Policy and a Profile. When creating or editing a profile, the section called "Software Update" allows you to select, through its name, the Policy you want that profile to apply to devices.
