Discover page

While the Insights Dashboards gives you the "big picture", the Discover page on the other hand allows you to go deeper in your analysis.

Explore your data in various forms thanks to regular and advanced filters, sort data to see your high and low performers, and check data for specific devices in order to pinpoint issues.

Permissions

The following list includes all permissions tied to this MDM section and the impacts they have on the MDM interface or the Insights API.

You can pick and choose these permissions when creating a new Custom Role or Insights API token.

Permission category - "Insights - Discover"

Read (insights.device.read)

  • What it does: Gives you access to device data in the Discover API endpoint

  • Where it applies: The Discover page of the MDM or the Discover API endpoint.

  • What happens without this permission: You won't be able to access either the MDM menu or the endpoint.

Data Table

We display the following data about your devices in table form, for the time period you have selected (see "Filters"):

  • Famoco ID
  • Fleet
  • App Activity data
    • Total activity in the selected time period + average daily activity
  • Network data
    • Total data usage in the selected time period + average daily data usage
    • Total Wi-Fi usage in the selected time period + average daily Wi-Fi usage
    • Average connectivity strength in the selected time period
  • Battery data
    • Total battery charge & discharge cycles (sum of charges/discharges divided by 100 - example: a battery charge cycle of 2 means that the device charged an equivalent of 200% in the selected time period)
    • Average battery level in the selected time period

Filters

Just like most tables in the MDM, you may apply filters to refine data, in order to find what you're really looking for, through various aspects:

  • Time: either a Time Period (Last X days, from a set list) or a Custom Time Range (from date X to date Y)
  • Logistics: select one or multiple Devices/Fleets/Labels
  • Applications: focus on specific Application activity or data consumption
  • Activity: filter only on devices that were active or not during the window of time you're analysing - for any application or only the given app(s), if specified

Advanced filters

For all columns concerning calculated data, it is possible to set ranges you want to analyse (e.g. "show me all the devices with activity under a certain amount of hours").

Under the regular filters you will find a field where you can pick one of the data categories, a condition (less/greater than X), and a threshold (see example below).

Data in a device's side-panel

By pressing on a specific device's row in the data table, if you wish to analyse it deeper, you'll be able to open its side-panel. In it, five charts allow you to understand the life of that device in a deeper way:

  • Battery Level: see how the device's battery level has evolved through time, and at what moments it was plugged/unplugged
  • Device Trails: track where a device has been lately
  • Top 3 Applications: know which were the 3 most used applications on that device, and for how long they were used
  • Package Activity per Hour: know how applications were used through time, in order to understand when your device was the most active
  • Application data consumption: track whether some applications are over-consuming mobile data and costing you more than they should

The window of time analysed in these charts will be the same as the one used by the table to display results.
