Profiles

Profiles allows you to configure a set of parameters that you can apply to your devices.

From this section, you can:

  • View the profiles that have been created within your organization
  • Perform the following actions:
    • Add profile(s)
    • Edit profile(s)
    • Remove profile(s)
    • Duplicate profile(s)
  • Export profile related data

Profiles table

By default, the Profiles table displays 10 profiles per page, but you can increase this number by clicking on the Rows per page drop-down. This setting is saved for each list (Devices, Fleets, etc.) and reused at next visit.

If your organization or the results of your filter contains more than the number of displayed rows per page, click on the arrow to move between pages (first page, previous page, next page, last page).

By default, all headers are displayed in the list:

  • In Use
  • Profile Name
  • Creation Date
  • Modification Date
  • Applications

You can remove or add again an hidden header in the Profiles list:

  • Click on settings
  • Select the header fields you want to display on the Profiles list.
  • Click on SAVE

All the profiles of your organization will be displayed in the Profiles list but you can filter them:

  • In Use
  • Profile Name
  • Applications

Profiles details

The information displayed in the Profiles table:

  • In use (the lock icon indicates that a profile is associated with at least 1 fleet)
  • The name of the profile
  • The creation date of the profile
  • The modification date of the profile

Highlight a profile row to get extended information about the profile settings. To highlight a row, simply click on it . The highlighted line is greyed and the side panel is displayed. The main settings of a profile are:

  • Sync Frequency
  • Sleep (after inactivity duration)
  • Device Mode
  • Connectivity
    • Wi-Fi
    • Mobile Data
    • NFC
    • Bluetooth
    • Location
  • Applications

Profiles Settings

Note: for some settings, you will have to choose between 2 or 3 options from this list:

  • Disabled: the setting will be disabled as soon as the device synchronizes. This option is associated with the following settings: Wi-Fi; Mobile Data; NFC; Bluetooth; Location; NFC Android Beam; Roaming APN.
  • Device controlled: no action will be taken when the device synchronizes, device user may turn on or off and possibly access to the setting from the Famoco Dashboard. This option is associated with the following settings: Custom Identification; Ring Volume; Wi-Fi; Mobile Data; NFC; Bluetooth; Location; NFC Android Beam.
  • Enabled: the setting will be enabled as soon as the device synchronizes. This option is associated with the following settings: Wi-Fi; Mobile Data; NFC; Bluetooth; Location; NFC Android Beam; Roaming APN.
  • Keep device setting: no action will be taken when the device synchronizes, the device user cannot change the setting. This option is associated with the following settings: Language; Time Zone; Roaming APN.
  • MDM controlled: the setting will be enabled as soon as the device synchronizes with additional setting value(s) from MDM profile. This option is associated with the following settings: Custom Identification; Language; Time Zone; Ring Volume.

Some settings, non-mandatory or with common default values, are hidden by default. A click on “Advanced settings” unfolds / folds those settings. In the description below, the basic settings field names are displayed using a bold font while the advanced settings are using a plain font.

The settings are organized in 6 different sections:

Main section

  • Profile Name is a mandatory text field, up to 100 characters
  • Comment is an optional text field, up to 256 characters
  • Sync Frequency is a drop-down (Default is 1 hour. Options are: 15 min; 30 min; 1 hour; 6 hours; 1 day; 1 week)
  • Device Mode is a toggle button (Default is Production Mode. Options are: Developer Mode; Production Mode. Developer mode allows you to use the Android debugging features of your device, it is advised to use this setting only for developing usage).
  • Custom Identification is a toggle button (Default is MDM Controlled. Options are: Device Controlled; MDM Controlled). This feature requires Famoco Layer 2.29.0 or above.
  • Language is a toggle button (Default is Keep device setting. Options are: Keep device setting; MDM controlled)
    • If Language is set to MDM controlled, a Language drop-down is displayed (default is English)
  • Time Zone is a toggle button (Default is Network provided. Options are: Network provided; Keep device setting; MDM controlled)
    • If Time Zone is set to MDM controlled, a Time Zone drop-down is displayed (no default value)

Profiles

Display & Sound

  • Sleep (after inactivity duration) is a drop-down (Default is 1 min. Options are: 15 s; 30 s; 1 min; 2 min; 5 min; 10 min; 30 min)
  • Ring Volume is a toggle button (Default is Device controlled. Options are: Device controlled; MDM controlled)
    • If Ring Volume is set to MDM controlled, a volume slider is displayed (default is 0, in a range from 0 to 7)
  • Boot Animation: allows you to set a custom boot logo for a more personalized experience. The file must be in zip format and there are certain rules to follow to create a boot logo. Check out the Developers section to know more.

Profiles

Connectivity

  • Wi-Fi is a toggle button (Default is Enabled. Options are Disabled; Device controlled; Enabled)
  • Mobile Data is a toggle button (Default is Device controlled. Options are Disabled; Device controlled; Enabled)
  • NFC is a toggle button (Default is Device controlled. Options are Disabled; Device controlled; Enabled)
  • Bluetooth is a toggle button (Default is Device controlled. Options are Disabled; Device controlled; Enabled)
  • Location is a toggle button (Default is Device controlled. Options are Disabled; Device controlled; Enabled)
    • If Location is set to MDM controlled, a Location Mode drop-down is displayed (No default value. Options are: High accuracy; Battery saving; Device only. Devices operating with Famoco Layer older than 2.22 will be set to High accuracy.). A tooltip is displayed for each option: High accuracy uses GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cellular network; Battery saving uses Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cellular network; Device only uses GPS)
    • If Location is set to MDM controlled, a Regular location fixes option is displayed. This option triggers 2 location fixes attempts per sync cycle (e.g., a GPS and/or Network location fix attempt every 15 minutes for a device syncing every 30 minutes). In order to save battery, each location attempt is limited to a 1 minute duration and to a medium accuracy (100 m or more). This feature requires Famoco Layer 2.28.0 or above.
  • NFC Android Beam is a toggle button (Default is Device controlled. Options are Disabled; Device controlled; Enabled), this option is only available when NFC is set to Enabled

Profiles

Wi-Fi

This section is displayed when Wi-Fi is set to Enabled in the Connectivity section.

  • Security is a drop down (Default is OPEN. Options are: OPEN; WEP; WPA/WPA2)
  • SSID is a text field, up to 64 characters (Empty by default. Mandatory if Security is not OPEN)
  • Password is a text field, value is hidden and up to 64 characters (empty by default, this field is displayed and mandatory if Security is not OPEN)
  • Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is a drop-down (Default is Never. Options are: Never; Only when plugged in; Always)

Mobile Data

This section is displayed when Mobile Data is set to Enabled in the Connectivity section.

  • Roaming is a toggle button (Default is Keep device setting. Options are: Disabled; Keep device setting; Enabled). The roaming feature is available on devices operated by a Famoco OS version released starting December 2020.
  • APN is a toggle button (Default is Keep device setting. Options are: Disabled; Keep device setting; MDM controlled). The following 17 fields are displayed only if APN is set to MDM controlled:
    • APN name is a mandatory text field, up to 64 characters (empty by default)
    • APN is a mandatory text field, up to 64 characters (empty by default)
    • Mcc is a mandatory number field, up to 64 digits (empty by default)
    • Mnc is a mandatory field, up to 64 digits (empty by default)
    • Type is an optional multi-select drop-down (No selection by default. Options are: default; mms; supl;wap;ia)
    • Proxy is an optional text field, up to 64 characters (empty by default)
    • Port is an optional number field, up to 64 digits (empty by default)
    • User is an optional text field, up to 64 characters (empty by default)
    • Password is an optional text field, value is hidden and up to 64 characters (empty by default)
    • Server is an optional text field, up to 64 characters (empty by default)
    • Mmsc is an optional text field, up to 64 characters (empty by default)
    • Mmsproxy is an optional text field, up to 64 characters (empty by default)
    • Mmsport is an optional number field, up to 64 digits (empty by default)
    • Authtype is an optional drop-down (Empty by default. Options are: Unset; None; PAP; CHAP; PAP or CHAP)
    • Protocol is an optional drop-down (Empty by default. Options are: IPv4; IPv6; IPv4/IPv6)
    • Roaming protocol is an optional drop-down (Empty by default. Options are: IPv4; IPv6; IPv4/IPv6)
    • Bearer is an optional drop-down (Empty by default. Options are: Unspecified; eHRPD; LTE)

Profiles

Applications

  • Applications is an optional searchable multi-select drop-down (No selection by default. Options are all available Library applications for the current organization and all Essential applications). When one or more applications are selected, it is possible (optional) to set/unset one application as Auto launch by hovering it with the mouse and clicking on the star icon. In the drop-down, it is possible to type in a few characters to search an application by its label, package name, package version name or version code (mixing several search terms to target different sources, e.g. label and version code, will not work). The drop-down and the selection list under it display the application application label and a Library / Essentials label on a first line and the Package Name, the Package Version Name (in case of an Essential app, the current version is displayed next to an “Automatic update” information label) and the Package Version Code in parentheses.

Profiles

Software Update

Select the software update policy name that will be applied to the profile. A “No Update” policy is selected as the default option. The devices applying this profile will start updating their software based on the selected policy.

Profiles export

  • Click on the EXPORT icon launch
  • Choose the rows you would like to export
  • Choose the headers you would like to export
  • Click on the EXPORT button to download the CSV file

Add a profile

  • Click on the +NEW button
  • Name and set your profile according to your business needs, each section of the modal dialog can be accessed by clicking the left menu or the next section is displayed by clicking the NEXT button
  • Click on the SAVE button in the last section (Applications)
    • The profile is displayed in the Profiles Table

Modify a profile

  • Select a profile
  • Click on the edit button, a modal dialog opens
  • Modify the profile settings according to your business needs
  • Click on the SAVE button

Note: after a profile modification, all the MDM devices descriptions of devices currently applying the profile are immediately updated: Sync Status is set to a Not synced value. The Sync Status value will later be set to Synced after a successful sync.

Remove a profile

You can only remove a profile if it is not associated to a fleet

  • Select a profile to remove
  • Click on the REMOVE button
    • A pop up is displayed to confirm the deletion
  • Click on the DELETE button
    • The profile will be removed from the Profile table
