Smart cards¶
Context¶
Deploying digital products, which keep track of identifying information across groups of people, is quite complex. Many industries rely on storing digital data on a physical format:
- Governmental services (e.g. identity cards)
- Public transit networks (e.g. transit cards)
- Workforce and logistics operations (e.g. access control)
- Humanitarian and development programs (e.g. assistance cards)
- Retail (e.g. loyalty cards)
How does Famoco address this complexity?
Solution¶
Famoco's 10+ years expertise in this field allowed us to create an out-of-the-box solution adapted to most of our customer's needs. We also offer standard customization for this solution, and are able to assist our customers in deeper customization if needed (both for business and cryptographic aspects).
This solution is centred on physical cards, and can include a printer for card personalisation in the field, but other form factors are imaginable and compatible, such as bracelets or rings.
To support this solution, and help our customers deploy it faster, Famoco has created a proprietary security applet called SIOPE, which is compatible with many form factors as long as they have a JavaCard OS. This means that we are not limited to applets provided by third-party agents: Famoco controls the whole solution.

As mentioned above, Famoco has an all-in-one solution and is able to provide full support to help you deploy your digital product. Famoco's Identity Solution is very versatile and flexible, which means that most or some aspects of it are manageable by our customers if they so desire and have the in-house knowledge for. But here's what Famoco brings to the table:
- Card manufacturing lifecycle: with Famoco's security expertise and experience in factory processes, our teams are able to handle
- Electronic pre-personalisation of your cards, ensuring that all security measures are followed when loading your profiles onto them (and even managing your cryptographic keys if you so desire!)
- Visual pre-personalisation, ensuring that your brand is well communicated and displayed on your cards
- Ordering of your desired amount of cards and SAMs
- Personalisation of the cards in the field: adding an extra layer of customization on the cards is possible, in order to identify the end-users in the field, thanks to dedicated printers and app (among which the Draco.1 printer, which is powered by a Famoco device)
- Read and write data onto cards with Famoco Devices: most of Famoco's devices are equipped with SAMs readers, allowing you to use our devices for reading from and writing to cards (the solution can also be compatible with eSEs)
- Android SDK and sample app: we provide these for effortless integration of this solution into your business apps

- Request a quote from your Sales representative
- The Support team will contact you with a NDA to be signed
- Famoco will then provide you with a starter kit, which includes:
- a sample app
- the Android SDK
- 10 demo cards
- 2 SAMs (1 SAM to write initial user data on a card - representing the provisioning of the card in the field - and 1 SAM to read/write data on a card - representing the usage of the card by the end-user)
